Stolen Memories Pt. 20
These two ladies are my new style icons. I’ll bet their work involved cows. They remind me of Miina Äkkijyrkkä, the extraordinary sculptor, painter and preserver of endangered, native cow breeds, who played one of the main characters in my first short film, “The Last Blood Sings Softly.” I think one day she’ll be named the patron saint of Finnish cows. (OK, this post is going in weird places again…)
I even have names for this one: “Elsa Seppälä, Aune Koivulahti, for Toivo.” The handwriting is so beautiful, I had to scan the back as well as the front of the picture. A few of my other photos have dedications on the back to Toivo, as well. I wonder who he was. A kind uncle? A grandfather? A “grand old man”? Somebody else completely?
